Red Beans and Rice, a New Orleans Tradition

It’s a New Orleans tradition to serve red beans and rice on Mondays. Every Monday morning, the woman of the house would put on a pot of red beans while she did laundry. More than likely inside the pot or alongside the red beans, there would be sausage, pork shank, or pork chops. Red beans became the go-to dish on Mondays because it didn’t require much up keep. You could put it on in the morning, and let it simmer all day. Chefs in New Orleans keep the tradition alive by fixing red beans and rice every Monday.

Now you might be thinking, what does this have to do with trucking and/or the trucking industry? Well, it has a whole lot to do with the trucking industry. When the chefs' needs for beans increase, their orders increase. When the suppliers' needs increase, the farmers' demand increases. It’s like a chain reaction, kind of like basic economics, supply and demand. When the demand increases, the supply also has to increase to prevent a shortage.

Now let me ask you a question: how are these beans being delivered to their destinations?

According to the American Trucking Association (ATA), the trucking industry is the lifeblood of the U.S. economy. Nearly 70% of all the freight tonnage moved in the U.S. goes on trucks. Without the industry and our truck drivers, the economy would come to a standstill. To move 9.2 billion tons of freight annually requires nearly 3 million heavy-duty Class 8 trucks and over 3 million truck drivers. It also takes over 37 billion gallons of diesel fuel to move all of that freight. Simply – without trucks, America stops.

American Truck Showrooms Launches New Branch in Arizona

American Truck Showrooms, a Major Commercial Truck Sales and Rental Dealership, Has Opened a New Office in Mesa, Arizona
American Truck Showrooms has announced the opening of its third dealership location, its first in the American West. The new dealership is located at 1645 N. 46th St., Mesa, AZ. Already having covered the Southeast with locations in Gulfport, MS and Atlanta, GA, American Truck Showrooms plans to make their truck rental programs available to a new market of drivers in a previously untapped region.

American Truck Showrooms provides certified pre-owned trucks with a "rental with option to purchase" option to drivers from any corner of the United States with no credit check. Rick Carpenter, the general manager of the Phoenix branch, considers the new location a significant strategic step forward: "The location is ideal for the high traffic of trucks using the I-10 Freeway. Its location is very suitable for the trucks moving cargo North and South up the Western United States. It also is very suitable for the trucks moving cargo from California all the way through Florida."

American Truck Showrooms - is the American Owner-Operator a Dying Breed?

American Truck Showrooms sees that currently, there is a significant shortage of truckers. We need to move goods, and the way they move is still very dependent on trucks. So, why the shortage of truckers with all of this demand?

The "Owner-Operator" is a trucker who has his own truck or trucks and "leases on" or enters into a contract with a certificated trucking company (may be called a motor carrier or haul source). The motor carrier has the "authority," has purchased the insurance, and obtains the loads that are to be delivered. The owner-operator provides the truck and the driver to deliver those loads. American Truck Showrooms and other dealers provide trucks to the owner-operators.

American Truck Showrooms Times 2 – Expanding Our Locations

Gulfport, MS - American Truck Showrooms is a big hit on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and, as a result, is expanding with Atlanta becoming the second location.

American Truck Showrooms is not a typical used truck dealership. Specializing in Class 8 over the road trucks, this dealership stands out. In addition to being a true “Showroom” facility, the Gulfport location has set new standards in “green” for truck facilities. The entire 10-acre facility is lit up with low energy LED lights that are 24-volt battery powered and only use traditional electricity for trickle charging. The truck wash uses a closed loop system, continually filtering and cleaning the water that is used to wash the 18-wheelers. The water is cleaned so well that it is stored in a clear retention pond that is home to a large family of brightly colored koi fish. Visitors both young and old are welcome to sit on the deck by the pond and feed the fish.

The Gulfport location of American Truck Showrooms currently has over 100 trucks on the property. Popular makes include Volvo, Freightliner, Kenworth, and Peterbilt. The dealership focuses on late model trucks that are in good shape and fully refurbishes these trucks as needed.

American Truck Showrooms has been such a hit because it offers the special Rental with an Option to Purchase, or Rent to Buy program that allows truckers, regardless of credit, to obtain quality trucks at reasonable costs.

Atlanta is a logical next step for the dealership. Atlanta is about 400 miles from Gulfport, Mississippi. With many customers of American Truck Showrooms flying in to obtain a truck, the close proximity to the Atlanta Airport is a huge plus.

Like the Mississippi location, American Truck Showrooms in Atlanta will be a showplace facility. Over 6 acres, fully concreted with a full shop and 6,000 square foot office building will provide the dealership with a great location for its future growth. As in Gulfport, the Atlanta dealership will utilize a closed loop system for its truck wash so that it too can help keep the environment clean.

Also like the Mississippi location, the new dealership will offer the No Credit Check Rent to Buy program. The company plans to add additional locations in 2014.

The Atlanta location of American Truck Showrooms will open this March in Newnan, Georgia, just south of the Atlanta airport off of I-85.
